to Rose Hamilton Elementary. Rose Hamilton Elementary is composed of approximately
325 students in grades Preschool - 2 and a staff of approximately
50, including teachers, aides, kitchen staff, office
staff, and custodians.
During the school day, students receive their academic instruction in self-contained classrooms, while receiving instruction in the related arts classes (art, music, physical education, library instruction, and computer lab) from licensed instructors throughout the building. |

| The Rose Hamilton Literacy Program follows the Purdue Literacy Network (PLN) literacy Framework model. The PLN is a research-based instruction model that is language-based, student-centered, process-oriented and outcome based. Rose Hamilton has a literacy coach that provides in-school professional development and coaching to our classroom teachers on a regularly scheduled basis. Reading Recovery is provided as a safety net for students in grade one who, even while experiencing a good literacy program, are having difficulty in the initial stages of learning to read and write. Other safety nets include special education services and other small group literacy interventions for all grades. |

| Our kindergarten uses the Early Intervention for School Success (EISS), a nationally validated program to screen our kindergarten students. The screening instruments identify basic academic skills in five modalities. These modalities are motor coordination - gross, motor coordination - fine, developmental skills - auditory, language, and visual. After screening, areas that are found to be weak are worked on by our EISS trained para-professionals under the guidance of our teachers. |
